The reason my plate broke was due to metal fatigue. You know how paper clips can break in half when they are bent back and forth? That's what happened inside my ankle.

Internal Fixation of a Fibula
This video shows the installation of a plate on someone's distal fibula. This plate looks exactly like the one I had installed on my fibula. You can see that it has some bend to it when the surgeon applies some force.
